Pollarding is a tree maintenance technique that can be used:-

  • to control tree’s size and
  • when the tree’s structural integrity has become compromised.

It involves the removal of all limbs back to the main trunk or to a prescribed point within the structure of the tree’s crown. After the initial cutting, the tree is then allowed to re-grow. Pollarding will requires regular re-pruning every 2 to 5 years.
